A Tournament and The New Adepta Sororitas

Had a great time at the tournament on Sunday. Lost very hard but met lots of new, great people.

  1. My first match (of three) was against a Grey Knight player and per usual my Salamanders just could not hold up to all the psy-bolt spam. Lost 2-15.
  2. My second match was against an Eldar (Space Marine allies) player. DIdn’t get tabled but I was left with my Land Raider and a single tactical marine at the bottom of turn 5. Lost 2-19.
  3. My last match was against an under-pointed Chaos Space Marines player. He had heard the tournament was 1500 points and was using a Dark Eldar vehicle as a Land Raider proxy. Still seemed like he was light on points and that make my victory sour. Won 13-2.

Here’s a picture from my second match. I didn’t get any other pictures because it was a pretty hectic day and I just forgot to whip my phone out.

In other news, the new Sisters of Battle digital only codex came out!

Likes:

  • Points are adjusted to be more balanced across the board.
  • The addition of War Hymns make melee fights less of a pain in the ass due to T3.
  • Some of the Relics are awesome.

Dislikes:

  • Only one Act of Faith per unit per battle. (With a couple exceptions)
  • Most of the Relics are shit.

So in the spirit of building a new 6th Edition Adepta Sororitas army, I’m starting with a model I picked up from Hitech Miniatures.

The Black Widow:

This “girl in terminator armour” is going to play as my Canoness HQ. The blade is a bit “Soul Calibur-y” but I think it works as a Blade of Admonition.

Other than scraping off the spiderwebs from her grieves and shoulder pads, the only thing I’ve done is added a bolt pistol bit I had laying around.

In all, I am extremely pleased with Hitech Miniatures and the quality of their casting.

Two Day Tournament and Thoughts for a New Unit

Here I am in my first match against Michael getting my derriere given to me on a platter. It was a was either a major victory or a massacre, I truly can’t remember but I learned a lot and got an idea from his army (more on that later).

Tournament Day(s)

Here we are on day two. You can see my half painted army in the bottom left.

Day Two

At the end of the tournament, I had 1 loss, 1 draw, and 2 wins. Very fun and very informative. Thanks again, Will, and everyone over there at HobbyTown. It was great seeing everyone and getting to test out my new list.

So playing in my first game I came up against a player with lots of Daemon Spawn. Freaking toughness 6 spawn. I had never gone up against such things and the way they were modeled (Fantasy dryads ripping out of the backs of Ogryns) was plainly just ridiculous (in a good way).

So I think I’m gonna try my hand at a little conversion and kit-bashing again. The idea behind my Sister of Battle with IG allies army is that they are all females (event Jacobus has been converted) so I just picked up a box of Warhammer Fantasy Orges and, that’s right, I’m gonna put gas masks and boobs on them. On top on that, I’m gonna try to put some Ork weapons on the fantasy models as the guns the Orks use are essentially stolen anyways; this will be a bit of Ogryn payback.

I mean… They already have moobs, how far of a stretch is this gonna be?

Orges

I may have spoke too soon…

Death Korps of Krieg Sergeant (UPDATED)

Going to a 1500 point game on March 23rd. Decided to finish out my army list with a sergeant who wields a power sword, plasma pistol and melta bombs.

I used parts from my Assault Marines bitz bin.

Thoughts?

UPDATE:
Based on what some folks on Facebook told me, I shaved down the hands quite a bit and I’m adding a picture from the back to show how the melta bomb sits above the backpack. As I told the same folks on Facebook, I like the over-sized weapons (plasma gun and melta bomb) on the figure but the hands did need to get shaved.

Aegis Defense Line and Quad Gun and Thoughts About the Future of my Sisters of Battle Army

Put together a quad gun and cut out and scraped a box of Aegis Defense Line today. I hope the painting goes quick.

Aegis Defense Line

So I’ve been debating for the last 2 days about getting some Death Korps of Krieg infantry units from Forge World. The problems are two-fold.

  • Cost: The cost of the 5 units and 4 heavy weapon teams as well as a couple odds and ends to create a Master of Ordnance is around $490 (shipped). That’s, at that point, around $4.50 a model which is even more expensive than a fully metal Sisters of Battle Army.
  • Too many models unpainted, un-assembled, or partially painted models already: As Avistew has pointed out, I have a lot of started armies but nothing really complete.
    My current stuff:

    • 100% painted 1750pts Sister of Battle list
    • 90% paint-complete 1500pts Blood Angel list
    • About 20% paint-complete 2000pts Salamanders list
    • 50% paint-complete Tyranid list
    • 10% paint-complete Dark Vengeance box
    • Primed 500pts Orkz list
    • Primed 500pts Necrons list
    • Primed 1000pts Chaos Space Marines list
    • Primed 1000pts Chaos Daemons list
    • Six boxes of scraped and assembled Wall of Martyrs – Imperial Defence Lines and Bunkers
    • Unpainted X’Lanthos Faction Starter Set
    • Three unpainted Kingdom Death: Monster Pinups
    • A couple un-assembled and unpainted Warhammer Fantasy terrain set pieces
    • A load of unpainted Reaper – Bones models on their way (around 500 individual models)
    • A load of More Kingdom Death: Monster table top game and pinups on their way

As you can see, that is a lot of unfinished hobby.

I wish I knew for certain what to do.

First Warhammer 40K Tourney of the Year!

It was 1750 points. I brought my Sister of Battle and Learned a lot!

My first match was against Necrons. What I learned was that I need some Anti Air units on the ground. Rolling solo SoB w/o allies seems to have been a bad choice against flyers.

First match results: 8-1 in my favor

My second and third matches were a different story. I still learned a lot but I got trounced!

My second battle was a mirror match against another Sisters of Battle player… only he brought friends in the form of about 500 points of blob Imperial Guard and a Master of Ordinance. I also got my initiative seized and thusly 3 Exorcists and an orbital bombardment later I was 2 exorcists, and a Saint Celestine down.

Second match results: 0-10 in my opponents favor

Finally, my third match ended closely in points. I fought an Ork army, again aligned with IG. (lolwat)

I took out his Manticore with what looked like Whirlwing Missles on turn 1 with my exorcists and then got bogged down with 4 of my units assaulting his first troop of 29 boys, 1 nob and 1 Weird Boy.

It took so long to get through that troop of boys and it was already 5 hours after when the tourney was supposed to end so we called it after 3 turns and counted up points.

Third match results: 4-6 in my opponents favor.

I would have liked to get more pictures but I forgot to take any on my first game and my battery died in my phone by the end of the 2nd game so nothing of my third. 🙁

All in all I had a lot of fun and I look forward to doing more tournaments this year.

Wish me luck!

Adding Final Touches to Exorcists or The Devil’s in the Details

Avistew put together some really nice free-hand Fleur-de-lis and Inquisition symbols for the tops of my Exorcist Missile Launchers:

She also did some details on my Exorcist banners. I did the red corners and the Micron pen squiggles and Avistew did everything else.

I decided to add some gore to my lead Exorcist tank and I just so happened to have some extra bits from my Custom Sisters of Battle project to do just that.
