Picked up a Cerastus Knight-Acheron from eBay and it didn’t come with a base so after taking some measurements with my calipers, I threw together a model in Sketchup Make that seems to be a pretty good base for my new wargaming model. I also incorporated a rock into the model thinking I could have my Cerastus Knight-Acheron stepping off of it. The rock was a bit small so instead I glued the Knight in a way that it remains very dynamic and looks like hes about to kick the rock into outer space. Who needs planetary defence forces, am I right?)by
So the Adamantium Lance Imperial Knight detachment is the only 3+ Knight Detachment that doesn’t get a Lord Baron or someone who can take Heirlooms of the Knightly Houses.
Even the non-Formation Household Detachment gets access to the Heirlooms.
This just screams Games Workshop isn’t keeping track of their own shenanigans in-house.
I guess that’s the price you pay for re-rollable Ion Shields. Except now there is no such thing as a Senechal (replaced with Lord Baron but not specified for Adamantine Lance Formation) so it’s all 4++ instead of the leader getting a 3++. The Senechal also loses the +1 WS/BS/I yet remains the same point cost.
Give Knight players who run 3+ knights access to more stuff yet nerfing us on point costs does not a good Codex make.by
Now that I’ve taken a lovely long look at the new Imperial Knight wargear, I’ve decided to 3D print some of the new goodies. Now $157 per Knight may be doable for some folks but I’m currently still looking for work so I decided to break out the old Google Sketchup and 3D printer to design some of my own weapons.
I threw together an Avenger Gatling Cannon first followed by the two carapace rocket pods. I plan on attempting to design a Thunderstrike Gauntlet but that seems a little beyond both my skills as a 3D modeler as well as my 3D printer’s abilities. I would like to design a Twin Icarus Autocannon but I may forego that since I plan on eventually getting quite a few Onager Dunecrawlers and I will make a conversion out of their Autocannon bits.
I will post better pictures of the Gatling Cannon in the future. (After I print my MkII version which has more details and will be printed at a better resolution.)
Make sure to check out my Etsy store and pick up a set of 3D printed game markers!
So Rainy Day Games runs a monthly Warhammer 40K league and they make heavy use of objective markers both Tacical (1-6) as well as Eternal War (1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4).
I’ve 3D printed objective markers before but I wanted a more complete set so I designed and 3D printed out a set of 1-6 as well as an “R” for the relic and an additional 2 and 3 for missions that require them. Additionally I designed and 3D printed some 40mm bases for the 25mm markers to sit into.
You can’t really see what is going on with these as they aren’t painted yet.
There you go.
And finally some closeup money shots.by
So the new Codex: Imperial Knights is freaking nuts. No more Seneschals or Knightly Ranks.
The Lord Baron (the new Seneschal) loses an initiative but can now buy 1 of 6 Heirlooms of the Knightly Houses.
Primary and Allied detachments have been replaced by Household (3-5 Knights; choose one to be your Lord Baron) and Oathsworn detachments (1-3 Knights).
All Knights are considered to be Lords of War now. (So tournaments better not negate an entire faction by limiting the number of Knights by allowing only a single Lord of War. I’mm looking at you, BAO and LVO.)
That should make getting lots of Victory Points for people when playing the Alter of War Escalation mission. (Receive 1 VP for every 3HP you pull off a LoW)
A big one for me is that if you choose Knights to be your primary detachment then all your knights gain Objective Secured.
Something that is funny to me but is very situational is the new Hurl rule that allows you to use a monstrous creature or vehicle as a large blast weapon against your enemies.by
The first round of Space Marine rumors are doing the rounds. Come see what the Astartes are bringing!
via RR on 5-2-2015
“June 13th sees new Adeptus Astartes Codex release with two vehicle boxes. New land raider command variant included and new rhino command variant. Ornate design on additional armour plates etc. More marine kits to follow.
The codex sees predators/whirlwinds/indicators as 1-3 options. No surprise.
The codex sees land raider squadrons and huge bonus to ignoring damage when part of them.”
After codex Craftworld, seeing the older Marine vehicle vehicles move to squadrons is not surprise. Forge World has been making command variants of the Land Raider and the Rhino for years now (see below)
With a rumored release date of June 13, this would appear to fit right in front of the rumored WFB 9th Edition reboot.
GW sure seems intend on jam-packing as much high interest 40K items as they humanly can in their end of year Q4 right before the WFB re-launch.
So I just added these to the Etsy Shop.
Clicking the top image below will take you to the Etsy page.
So I’ve been getting back into the hobby in a big way and I decided to start with some Objective Markers.
These are very utilitarian and soon (Read: Monday) I will post about the more artsy markers I also designed and painted. They will seem very familiar to some of you who followed this blog a while ago and I hope the new ones are as well received ad the last few sets I’ve made.
Meanwhile, this post revolves around the markers I designed and have been printing out sets of all day. They can hold a pair of rounded 12mm dice and are 40mm in diameter.
I’ve already sold a set of 6 to a new friend over at Rainy Day Games and I hope to see them on the battlefield on Sunday’s league games.by
So I recently moved to the Portland Oregon area and I needed to find a local game store. I looked high and low for this place called “Friendly Local Game Store.” I find out, after driving for 20 mins, that the place shut down last November and that it was sudden and shady sounding.
Disappointedly I decide to give Google one more chance to find me some new gaming digs and I found a place in Aloha, OR called Rainy Day Games. Being the social pariah that I am, I was very apprehensive to give the new place a shot.
I walk in to the place and am greeted by massive walls full of all things geekery when it comes to gaming.
I was impressed to say the least.
My last gaming store was pretty sad when it came to selection whereas Rainy Day Games had everything I was looking for and more.
I walked away with a Skitarii Dunecrawler and a box of Skitarii Vanguard.
I set away to building the models quickly both excited to be hobbying again as well as worried about my skills being up to snuff after being away from it for so long.
Still need to base my models but I feel the painting looks really good so far.by
Just slapped a buncha paint onto the first of two Valkyries.
First, I painted all the panels and parts that stuck out a dark red. Then I dry\brushed the entire model with a bright silver. Finally, I washed the entire model with a black wash.by
Recently I’ve been 3D printing conversion parts for a pair of Valkyries I’m hoping to bring to a tournament soon. I really like the aesthetic of twin turbines for wings instead of the static wings that come with the kit so that’s what I’ve been working on. I recently posted this conversion on my Etsy store. On top of that, an article over at 3DPrintingIndustry.com was written up about my (then) unfinished conversion.
I ran some LEDs through the ducts in the wings and wired them inside of the plane. This is my first conversion with electronics involved and it was all very straightforward.by
