Road to LVO 2017 (213 Days To Go!)

213 days to go to LVO 2017!

Tickets came on sale this past week and I’m all signed up. I’ve already put my feelers out there so see what I want to field at next year’s big tournament in Vegas. So far I’ve come up with something similar to, but very far from what I’ve played in the past. Let me tell you first that I am by far an Imperial/Emperor fanboy and have thoroughly enjoyed fighting for the God Emperor for many years. I don’t think of them as the “good guys” by a long shot but do enjoy the mythos surrounding the Imperium and vast and thick fog that surrounds much of the history of mankind. In that vein, The last many years (5) of playing Warhammer 40K have been filed with Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Sisters of Battle and Imperial Knights. (Mostly Imperial Knights in the last 2 years.)

That being said, my current thoughts of what to put on the table next February are a CAD of Fateweaver, and two units of Horrors along with a Chaos Paladin Knight. Beside them is a team of double Avenger-Gatling-Cannon-wielding Renegade Knights.

Throwing a little mathhammer around with just the Renegade Knights, that would be:

MEQs without cover: (2/3 to hit) * (5/6 to wound) * 48 shots = 26 wounds
Rhino without cover: (2/3 to hit) * (1/3 to glance/pen) * 48 shots = 10 hull points

As a side note, I am also toying with the idea of running a 3rd Renegade Knight instead of the Chaos variant with the same loadout as the other Renegade Knights and upping my shot output to 72 Str6 AP3 Rending shots per round.

Just the idea of playing a Heretic/Xenos army is baffling and alien (puns intended) to me. I have very little experience playing against non-Imperial armies. In fact, this past LVO, I played 5 our of 6 games versus Imperial armies. (And out of those 5, three of them were 9+ Drop Pod lists.)

I am interested in what others think about these ideas. Let me know on my Facebook page.

Objective Markers (And Scouts)

So I’ve been playing a lot of practice games of 1500pts of Warhammer 40,000. So far not a lot of victories for the Imperium of Man (Salamanders).

I got my Salamanders Special Edition Space Marines Codex last week and I’ve been trying out quite a few different army lists.

On Monday I faced blobs and tanks of IG and brought a lot of heavy support. I got demolished. Wednesday I brought some Demolishers of me own along with my Sternguard; I did better against the Orks in Trucks but we tied.

Speaking of that game with the Orks, we played The Scouring and I got to use my Victory Point markers a made last week.

I added magnets to the bottom of the markers so that the points values can be reassigned to different markers and I wont get an advantage to knowing which marker leads to which points.

Finally, I got bored last night and built some Scouts.

Necron Warriors

Putting together a few 500 point lists for Extra Life.

First thing up is a bunch of Necrons:

Necrons List:

HQ
Overlord with Voidblade and Mindshackle Scarabs

Royal Court
Harbinger of Despair with Veil of Darkness

Troops
9x Necron Warriors
9x Necron Warriors

Heavy
Annihilation Barge

I have the barge built and primed. Just gotta prime the warriors and then I can install their gun rods. The harbinger just needs his head installed and an abyssal staff converted and the 500 points are complete.

Other armies planned:
Blood Angels
Orkz
Sisters of Battle
Dark Angels
Chaos Daemons
Chaos Space Marines
Codex Space Marines (Salamanders)

Obliterator

My Obliterator conversion.

  • Started by getting an AOBR Terminator set from eBay.
  • I cut out the termmie head from the main body.
  • I found a head from a bin full of CSM: Possessed bits and replaced the termmie head.
  • I started attaching arms like the multi-melta and plasma canon.
  • I cut the hand off the heavy lasgun and attached a flamer to the inside left arm.
  • I added an auto-rocket loader arm and had it grabbing a plasma rifle.
  • Just for kicks I added a pintle-mounted rocket launcher even though the model doesn’t have one.
  • Second to lastly, I added the staff-head from a Chaos Personal Icon to the oblitz back.
  • Finally, I tightened everything up with a ton of glue and an ammo box to hide all the conduits from the guns on his back.

Notice the sweet pintle-mounted action!

Cracking open the molds

Spent the night opening up the molds I made last night.

The one on the far right I opened last night after only about 5.5 hours of the 6 hour vulcanizing process. It was a huge disaster! lof of the rubber stuck to the model and it’s more or less 100% ruined. Oh well, live and learn.
