213 days to go to LVO 2017!
Tickets came on sale this past week and I’m all signed up. I’ve already put my feelers out there so see what I want to field at next year’s big tournament in Vegas. So far I’ve come up with something similar to, but very far from what I’ve played in the past. Let me tell you first that I am by far an Imperial/Emperor fanboy and have thoroughly enjoyed fighting for the God Emperor for many years. I don’t think of them as the “good guys” by a long shot but do enjoy the mythos surrounding the Imperium and vast and thick fog that surrounds much of the history of mankind. In that vein, The last many years (5) of playing Warhammer 40K have been filed with Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Sisters of Battle and Imperial Knights. (Mostly Imperial Knights in the last 2 years.)
That being said, my current thoughts of what to put on the table next February are a CAD of Fateweaver, and two units of Horrors along with a Chaos Paladin Knight. Beside them is a team of double Avenger-Gatling-Cannon-wielding Renegade Knights.
Throwing a little mathhammer around with just the Renegade Knights, that would be:
MEQs without cover: (2/3 to hit) * (5/6 to wound) * 48 shots = 26 wounds
Rhino without cover: (2/3 to hit) * (1/3 to glance/pen) * 48 shots = 10 hull points
As a side note, I am also toying with the idea of running a 3rd Renegade Knight instead of the Chaos variant with the same loadout as the other Renegade Knights and upping my shot output to 72 Str6 AP3 Rending shots per round.
Just the idea of playing a Heretic/Xenos army is baffling and alien (puns intended) to me. I have very little experience playing against non-Imperial armies. In fact, this past LVO, I played 5 our of 6 games versus Imperial armies. (And out of those 5, three of them were 9+ Drop Pod lists.)
I am interested in what others think about these ideas. Let me know on my Facebook page.
So the Adamantium Lance Imperial Knight detachment is the only 3+ Knight Detachment that doesn’t get a Lord Baron or someone who can take Heirlooms of the Knightly Houses.
Even the non-Formation Household Detachment gets access to the Heirlooms.
This just screams Games Workshop isn’t keeping track of their own shenanigans in-house.
I guess that’s the price you pay for re-rollable Ion Shields. Except now there is no such thing as a Senechal (replaced with Lord Baron but not specified for Adamantine Lance Formation) so it’s all 4++ instead of the leader getting a 3++. The Senechal also loses the +1 WS/BS/I yet remains the same point cost.
Give Knight players who run 3+ knights access to more stuff yet nerfing us on point costs does not a good Codex make.
Now that I’ve taken a lovely long look at the new Imperial Knight wargear, I’ve decided to 3D print some of the new goodies. Now $157 per Knight may be doable for some folks but I’m currently still looking for work so I decided to break out the old Google Sketchup and 3D printer to design some of my own weapons.
I threw together an Avenger Gatling Cannon first followed by the two carapace rocket pods. I plan on attempting to design a Thunderstrike Gauntlet but that seems a little beyond both my skills as a 3D modeler as well as my 3D printer’s abilities. I would like to design a Twin Icarus Autocannon but I may forego that since I plan on eventually getting quite a few Onager Dunecrawlers and I will make a conversion out of their Autocannon bits.
New Knight Weapons
I will post better pictures of the Gatling Cannon in the future. (After I print my MkII version which has more details and will be printed at a better resolution.)

Make sure to check out my Etsy store and pick up a set of 3D printed game markers!
So Rainy Day Games runs a monthly Warhammer 40K league and they make heavy use of objective markers both Tacical (1-6) as well as Eternal War (1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4).
I’ve 3D printed objective markers before but I wanted a more complete set so I designed and 3D printed out a set of 1-6 as well as an “R” for the relic and an additional 2 and 3 for missions that require them. Additionally I designed and 3D printed some 40mm bases for the 25mm markers to sit into.
You can’t really see what is going on with these as they aren’t painted yet.
There you go.
And finally some closeup money shots.
So the new Codex: Imperial Knights is freaking nuts. No more Seneschals or Knightly Ranks.
The Lord Baron (the new Seneschal) loses an initiative but can now buy 1 of 6 Heirlooms of the Knightly Houses.
Primary and Allied detachments have been replaced by Household (3-5 Knights; choose one to be your Lord Baron) and Oathsworn detachments (1-3 Knights).
All Knights are considered to be Lords of War now. (So tournaments better not negate an entire faction by limiting the number of Knights by allowing only a single Lord of War. I’mm looking at you, BAO and LVO.)
That should make getting lots of Victory Points for people when playing the Alter of War Escalation mission. (Receive 1 VP for every 3HP you pull off a LoW)
A big one for me is that if you choose Knights to be your primary detachment then all your knights gain Objective Secured.
Something that is funny to me but is very situational is the new Hurl rule that allows you to use a monstrous creature or vehicle as a large blast weapon against your enemies.
